I’ve been writing, editing, and otherwise working with words most of my life. Like many writers, I started writing short stories as a kid and then worked on novels at night during my first career in corporate sustainability strategy and communications. With a career change my day job became all about words, first in freelance copywriting and editing and now as a book editor for a publishing company, where I have the privilege of helping a multitude of authors across genres bring their books to life.
And, I write! My genres are upmarket/book club fiction with both contemporary and historical settings, middle grade mysteries, and picture books.
Besides amazing family and friends, one of the great fortunes of my life is that I’ve been lucky enough to travel—I’ve visited twenty-six countries across five continents. But I’ve only managed to live in Dallas, Houston, and Austin. The latter has been home since I came to the University of Texas at Austin and earned a BA in English literature followed by an MBA in sustainable development. I also earned a certificate in editing from the University of Washington. I am a member of the Writers’ League of Texas (WLT) and the Society for Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI).
Besides reading and writing, in my spare time I love shaping color into things (especially working with stained glass, watercolor, or knitting, but any craft where I get to play with color will do). I’m easily talked into school volunteer work, from tutoring in reading and math to coaching archery to sewing theater production costumes. Animals have always been a big part of my life—currently, our family has two cats and a dog. I used to dance and do triathlons and now am a recovering couch potato trying to make a habit of going to Pilates. But you might still happen upon me tap dancing—especially in elevators—when I’m pretty sure no one is watching.
