Lee Reed’s Constellation Clues: The Cipher of the Seven Stars presentation is great! She came to visit Lee Elementary, on short notice, at an after school event that had all ages, including parents. Everyone was engaged. She focused on the constellation aspect of her book which supported our focus on the eclipse the next week. The make-your-own-constellation activity she brought for the kids to do while she read the first chapter was well received. The kids and parents loved her and so did I!!

Classroom and Library In-Person Visits and Writing Workshops for Students
Your students will enjoy an interactive presentation, a brief reading of an excerpt from Constellation Clues, plus Q&A time, all tailored to the group’s age and size. Topics can include:
- What story does your constellation tell? Constellations are more than just dot-to-dot pictures in the sky. They tell important stories that ancient peoples used in work and play. After a few brief examples of constellation myths from different cultures, we’ll make our own constellation and story!
- Design an inclusive party! Just like characters in Constellation Clues, so many of us are different in ways others can’t tell just by looking at us. We’ll use the fiction writing powers of creativity and invention to let our imagination soar as we plan together a party everyone can enjoy!
- We are all artistic scientists! Quinn Knight, the protagonist of Constellation Clues, calls herself an “artistic scientist” because of her career aspiration and hobby of astrophotography. We’ll look at some awesome star photos and talk about “artistic” and “scientific” qualities that we all use every day.
- Puzzler’s perspective. When solving mysteries, or figuring out any problem, sometimes we need to look at the information around us in a new way. We’ll discuss lots of ways to change our perspective when puzzling our way out of a predicament.
- Wacky, wonderful words! Writers love to have fun with words. We’ll talk about what writers think about when they choose the words they use, and we’ll have fun with some fabulously funny words. This presentation can also cover careers for wordsmiths.
- Writing workshop for creative writing, journalism, or other writing classes. I’ll connect with the educator ahead of time to choose a focus area: a fiction element, the editing process, a written work’s publishing journey, etc. The workshop will be a mixture of conversation plus prompted writing time.
Virtual Visits for Classes and Book Groups
For groups that have read my books, I am happy to offer a complimentary 30-minute, Q&A-style virtual author visit. There is no formal presentation with virtual visits. I request that participants have read the book we’ll be discussing. I’ll begin with any questions the group leader has collected ahead of time and then open the discussion to new questions.
